Metastasio Theatre

Work on the construction of the Metastasio Theatre-designed by Louis De Cambray Digny, director of the Royal Factories of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany-began on August 5, 1828 and was completed in April 1830. Antonio Marini paints the curtain and frescoes the vault of the hall. Between 1868 and 1869, following restoration work directed by Telemaco Bonaiuti, Marini’s frescoes were removed.

After damage in World War II, the Theatre was closed for renovations in 1956 to reopen in 1964 under the direction of Gilberto Casini, and then under the leadership of Montalvo Casini from 1965 to 1986. In 1987 the Metastasio Theatre Consortium was founded, directed until the following year by Gabriele Lavia. From 1989 to 1993, the direction passed to Fulvio Fo. In 1994, the Metastasio Theatre Foundation was established, with Massimo Castri as its director. In 1998, the Department of Performing Arts recognized the Metastasio Theater Foundation as the Public Stable Theatre of Tuscany. Franco D’Ippolito has directed the theatre since 2015.

The Metastasio App is the foundation’s new project aimed at communicating artistic activity across the board: real-time updates on performances, events and projects scheduled for Metastasio, Fabbricone, Fabbrichino and Magnolfi Theaters.

The main menu highlights the playbill by following its evolution over time, showing scheduled shows and those about to begin. Audiences can also filter the daily poster by venues, thus choosing to delve deeper into the event listings of the space of interest by purchasing the admission ticket directly from their device.

The map will help get to the venue with the “navigate to” feature that is activated simply by selecting the location of interest. The use of beacons in the theatre’s spaces will also allow the theater to accompany spectators physically present in the halls to discover exclusive news.

Each user’s personal area allows the creation of an exclusive Wish List that will allow them to be notified near the beginning of each event added to the list!

The project also saw the emergence of an effective collaboration with Numeriprimi, already the Foundation’s supplier for its web counterpart, to create software automatisms that can simplify content management and make operators’ work faster.
